It was such a joy to see one of the studies for Sunday Afternoon @metmuseum. I had no idea Seurat painted 28ish of these before going big!! Sometimes I wonder if anyone these days paints sketches at all. To me it takes away some of the fun, excitement, and surprise of learning as you go. I hear you are more likely to see this if my face is in it, so here is one of my favorite paintings, with one of my favorite dresses. Maybe you can tell I have a thing for dots? I think both painting and dress could really go with anything and fit in anywhere, but that is a different conversation for a different day 🌸⚫️⚪️

This is the time of year I start painting what pops up all around me. Although the daffodils are done for the season, I’ve been diligently watching my azaleas and charting which ones are starting to bloom first. After planting at least 40 azaleas, peonies, irises, and hydrangeas throughout the yard last spring I’m excitedly watching how they will emerge 💐👀🕵🏼‍♀️👩🏼‍🌾

This is my Marshmallow Clouds series which started as a playful experiment squeezing out the tail end of a cut tube of white oil paint which looked a bit like a fluffy cloud. I’m not sure if I ever named this series but it’s one of my favorites. It’s the manifestation of completely letting loose while still maintaining some slight boundaries. Like running wild but still coming back to who you are.

I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about next steps once I start painting again. I was able to lightly sketch out some pieces yesterday and the soreness in my hand is starting to subside so I’m grateful. If you’ve ever thought about installing a rug runner on your wooden steps— this is your sign to do it!!

It’s been a rough week. I broke my hand.. my painting hand… BUT I’m super lucky that I will be able to paint again much sooner than I expected. I’m taking another week or two to reset and in the meantime will be sharing all the pieces I had previously finished. I’ll definitely be ready for a fresh start once the flowers start blooming here soon! 💐🙏
